Prep Time 10 minutes
Total Time 10 minutes
Course: Mixing
Cuisine: Mixing

Ingredients

  • 2 cups play sand clean, dry, and fine
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup dish soap mild, like Dawn or Palmolive
  • Optional: few drops of food coloring or non-toxic paint
  • Optional: essential oils like lavender for calming sensory play
  • Optional: glitter or tiny toys/shells for extra fun

Method

  1. In a large bowl or tub, combine 2 cups of sand and 1 cup cornstarch. Stir well to distribute evenly.
  2. Slowly add 1/2 cup dish soap, mixing with a spoon or your hands until the texture is doughy but slightly wet.
  3. Adjust texture if needed by adding more dish soap if too dry or more sand/cornstarch if too wet. For color, knead in food coloring or washable paint until evenly tinted.
  4. Pour into a play tray or sensory bin, adding cookie cutters, molds, or small plastic toys for interactive play.

Notes

Store in an airtight container after play. Keep cool and dry. Check for debris before next use.
