Ingredients
  

  • Blue crayons in several shades
  • Vegetable peeler or box grater
  • Parchment paper or wax paper
  • Clear contact paper or clear glass ornament halves
  • Baking sheet or heat-safe surface
  • Small silicone molds or cookie cutters optional
  • Iron or preheated oven
  • Tweezers or small spatula
  • String ribbon, or suction hooks for hanging (optional)
  • Scissors
  • A flat tray or sheet to work on
  • Oven mitts and a damp cloth for safety
  • A well-ventilated area and an adult to supervise

Method
 

  1. Gather your blues and prepare your workspace. Lay out parchment on a flat tray and arrange crayons by tone.
  2. Create shavings by running a peeler along a crayon or use a box grater.
  3. Cut two pieces of parchment paper slightly larger than your intended shape.
  4. Scatter a thin, even layer of shavings on one piece of parchment.
  5. If using contact paper, lay the sticky side up and sprinkle shavings directly on it.
  6. For the iron method, place the second sheet of parchment on top and press gently.
  7. If using the oven, preheat to 250°F and watch through the oven window.
  8. Allow the wax to cool a moment so it firms slightly but stays pliable.
  9. Add string or a small hole for hanging.
  10. Hang in a sunny window and watch the blues deepen and float with incoming light.

This project can be done with children under adult supervision, using simplified methods for safety.
