Fireworks in a Jar

A fun and simple experiment creating colorful bursts in water using oil and food coloring.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 large clear jar or glass vase
  • Warm water
  • 2 –3 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Several drops of food coloring red, blue, yellow, green, etc.
  • A fork toothpick, or small whisk
  • Optional: glitter

Method
 

  1. Fill the clear jar about 3/4 full with warm water.
  2. In a small bowl, add 2–3 tablespoons of oil and 4–6 drops of food coloring. Stir briefly to break the coloring into small bubbles.
  3. Gently pour the oil/food coloring mix into the jar of warm water and watch it create colorful trails and bursts.

Notes

Serve as a table centerpiece for gatherings. Use warm water for better movement of colors.
