Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup distilled water
  • 1 tablespoon clear gel base powder or 1 teaspoon agar-agar
  • 10 to 20 drops of fragrance oils or essential oils
  • Optional: Food-grade coloring or mica powder
  • Optional: Glitter or dried botanicals like lavender blossoms
  • Small glass jars or shallow tins
  • Salt small amount
  • Disposable stirring sticks or a small spoon
  • Measuring spoons and a heatproof bowl
  • Labels and a soft cloth

Method
 

  1. Measure 1 cup distilled water and pour it into a heatproof bowl.
  2. Gently sprinkle 1 tablespoon clear gel base or 1 teaspoon agar if using a natural set.
  3. Let it sit for a minute so the powder hydrates.
  4. Warm the bowl over a pot of simmering water or in short bursts in the microwave.
  5. Stir slowly until the gel dissolves and the mix looks glossy and smooth.
  6. Remove from heat and let the mix cool slightly for a minute or two.
  7. Add 10 to 20 drops of fragrance oil or essential oil.
  8. Stir in one drop of color if desired; watch the hue spread like watercolor.
  9. If you want botanicals or glitter, place them in the jars now.
  10. Pour the scented gel slowly into each jar, filling to your chosen level.
  11. Leave the jars on a level surface and cover loosely to keep dust away.
  12. Allow the gel to set undisturbed for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  13. Once set, press a soft cloth on the lid to remove condensation.
  14. Add a label with the scent and the date to track freshness.
  15. Place your finished gel jars where air moves gently – near a window or on a shelf.

Notes

Choose skin-safe fragrance oils and avoid high heat when storing gel air fresheners.
