Ingredients
  

  • Eggs hard-boiled or blown
  • Food coloring liquid
  • White vinegar
  • Vegetable oil or olive oil
  • Shallow bowls or containers
  • Spoon or small whisk
  • Tongs or slotted spoon
  • Paper towels
  • Old towels or tray
  • Disposable gloves optional
  • Drying rack or egg carton
  • Natural materials for display optional

Method
 

  1. Prepare your eggs by boiling or emptying them.
  2. Fill shallow bowls with warm water and add vinegar.
  3. Add food coloring drops to the bowls.
  4. Pour a thin film of oil on the surface of the dye.
  5. Tap and swirl the oil gently with a spoon.
  6. Lower an egg into the colored surface, starting with the wider end.
  7. Lift the egg and blot excess oil with paper towels.
  8. Repeat dipping in other colors if desired.
  9. Set the egg to dry on a rack or carton.
  10. Buff the dried egg with a cloth for sheen, if desired.

Notes

Experiment with different oils and natural dyes for unique colors.
